Eirini Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Unfiltered ! ...so that you can taste and enjoy the distinctive aromas
Bright golden yellow in colour with green hues, a strong fruity taste and an earthy bouquet, with tones of freshly cut grass, oregano, rosemary and bitter almond. After picking we have to groom the trees. The first thing to do is prune the tree and place organic traps to control olive fruit flies which destroy the olive. Care for the trees is a year long affair. There are things to be done in winter, things to be done in spring, things to be done when the moon is waxing or when it is waning. These were things the old ones knew and that we in our family still observe. Contrary to what happens in other organic farms, we welcome weeds and herbs in ours, since we believe that if they were not useful they wouldn't be it the plot in the first place. So, there is oregano growing among the olive trees and sage, thyme, savoury, St John's wort, wild artichoke and of course quince, fig and bitter almond trees, which attract beneficial insects that transfer scents to the olive fruit and combat fungi. It is a blessed symbiosis, which grants to the olive oil we produce a bouquet made of all the aromas found on the land. To shield our olive oil's unique character, we bottle it unfiltered, so that you can taste and enjoy the distinctive smells
An effort rewarded…
In the first year of bottling (2007-2008) the European Network of Regional Development honoured EIRINI PLOMARIOU, then under the name Irini Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil Unfiltered, with the golden award for taste in the category strong fruity olive oils. The same olive oil represented Greece in the premio biol 2008 International Competition in Italy, where it earned a distinction. On 3 April 2009 in a tasting competition involving organic olive oils from throughout Greece, DIO the largest organization in Greece providing certification on the organic status and quality of olive oils, singled out Ιrini Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil Unfiltered with a 98.5 average as the best olive oil for the period 2008-2009, and selected it to represent Greece in the premio biol 2008 International Competition in Italy, where it came first in the BIOL GRECIA 2009 category.
From the land of Lesvos
The island of Lesvos, in Greece, is known for its silvery green hills where olive trees have stood since prehistoric times. Its volcanic soil has helped make the olive oil produced on the island one of the best in the world. The olive tree variety grown in the area is the "kolovi" also knows as "valanolia". Its fruit if picked when not yet quite ripe gives an olive oil which is bright golden yellow in colour with green hues, a strong fruity taste and an earthy bouquet, with tones of freshly cut grass, oregano, rosemary and bitter almond. It is a pungent olive oil, incomparable when it comes to salads, still low in acidity, which also makes it ideal for cooking. Distinctions, however, do not stop here. In 2009, the University of Zurich in its 8th International Olive Oil Competition discerned the wild artichoke, fresh grass and bitter almond aromas hiding in the Irini Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil Unifiltered and ranked it among the winners. In May 2009, the International Olive Oil Council, which is based in Madrid, singled out Irini Organic Extra Virgin Olive Oil Unfiltered among 85 olive oils from around the world and awarded to it the MARIO SOLINAS 2009 quality award.

Great value for an exceptionally nice olive oil. I've tried many, especially Greek olive oils, and lots of expensive Italian ones...but, this one's great. I am glad i got it.
